Tokyo Babylon V.1Review
Tokyo Babylon is a series by Clamp that was written in the early 1990s and is a prequel series to X/1999. The series is about Subaru Sumeragi a sixteen onmyoji which is someone who can use the five elements to battle supernatural forces and communicate with the dead, the series is made up of episodic chapters in which Subaru is hired to send spirits away that are causing trouble for the living.
There are three chapters in this volume the first is clearly a set up to this in which we meet the three main characters Subaru the young kind hearted humble onmyoji, his twin sister Hokuto who is much more outgoing then him, she's very into fashion and constantly tries to set him up with Seishiro and the last main character is Seishiro who is a veterinarian who claims in fell in love with Subaru at first sight, he is also the heir of the Sakurazukamori family which is a family of assassins. A subplot that is shown through out the series is the developing relationship between Subaru and Seishiro which I adore.
The second chapter deals with ghost of an aspiring actress who is haunting Tokyo Tower after she committed suicide after the movie in which she was to have her first speaking part was cancelled. After talking to Subaru and Seishiro the spirit of the woman was able to be sent to the afterlife.
The finale chapter was about Subaru remembering that he met a boy once when he was young that explained to him that the reason that cherry blossom are pink is because they are drinking the blood of the corpse that is buried underneath the tree. Also in this chapter Subaru, Hokuto and Seishiro went to the park to view the cherry blossom trees and Seishiro says the same thing about the cherry blossom tree and the corpse that the boy from Subaru's past said making Subaru suspect they might be the same person but subaru drops this theory because of how different the two personalities are.
Favorite Quotes:
"Human beings aren't strong enough to live without their dreams."
"You see the flowers on cherry trees used to be white. Pure like snow. So why do you think cherry blossoms turned that pale crimson shade? It's because they drink the blood from the corpse underneath the tree."
I overall loved this series, I love the characters, I find the plot interesting and I find that the artwork is lovely. Please tell me your thoughts about this series.
